Design systems that scale without slowing you down
A system should make shipping faster, not turn every change into a committee. How to build one that stays useful as the product grows.

Design systems get a bad name when they become bureaucracy. The point is the opposite: a good system removes decisions so the team can move faster, not slower.
Start with what repeats
Do not try to systematise everything on day one. Pull out the components and tokens that already repeat across the product, document them well, and let the system grow from real usage.
- Tokens for colour, type and spacing as the single source of truth
- Components that encode behaviour, not just appearance
- Clear rules for when to extend versus when to make an exception
The test of a system is simple: does it make the next screen faster to build and more consistent than the last? If not, it is overhead, and overhead should be cut.
